Time Square is, without a doubt, a tourist favorite but New Yorker's nightmare. It's crowded, dirty, too loud and too bright. I live on 36th and 6th and my friend Angie lives on 42nd and 8th. Every time I visit her I purposely avoid taking broadway, which is supposably the shortest route. I would walk to 9th avenue and then make my way uptown so that I never have to go through Time Square.
Throughout the years, my feelings for Time Square has grown in multiple directions. While all the stuff I hate about it remain the same, I also began to appreciate it begrudgingly. The late night walks through this giant bubble of lights make me feel safe and refreshed. I'm uncontrollably drawn to its high-profile liveliness, which accurately represents the culture of this sleepless city.
